Funding a business plan
One of the increasing trends we have seen in Money Makeover is how many of our candidates have started a small business, either as a side hustle or as their main income, in order to provide for their families.
This year we have two candidates who are starting businesses.
Raymond has a subsistence farm and small food enterprise in a township near Empangeni in KZN which is his only means of supporting himself and his family.
Sello is employed but is starting a manufacturing business making eco-friendly straws.
Both need advice and funding to grow their businesses. In this video we speak to Norman Venketiah, Absa Group head of SME in Kwa-Zulu Natal and Mpumalanga about the various options available for small businesses when it comes to funding but also where to get advice and training – because when it comes to having your own business, knowledge can be more valuable than money.

If you really want to get your finances in order, you have to start tracking your spending. If you cannot commit to that, it is unlikely you will be able to reach your goals.
City Press will follow the candidates’ progress on the first and third week of each month, as well as online on the Money Makeover page:
